Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 15-25kts Surf / Sea State: flat/swell Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Sunny / cloud Max Speed: 19.41 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 14.3nm (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
First sail since autumn last year, and it was gusting 25kts, plus had a
different foil board to setup (Patrik 100), so wasn't keen at all!
Bradfield was warm, but white water everywhere, swell in middle. Prob 20
sailors, several wings, with 4 Felixstowe wind foilers and many more
locals, with fin sailors blitzing it from the launch site across the river
to Mistley. Wings stayed within the zone and wind foilers head towards
Wrabness. Had rigged 7.8, but Andy said no way, so went 6.2, with others
ranging from 4.5 to 5.8. My new acquisition is completely different to the
Exocet bd. Its easier to sail and not so sensitive, which suits me great.
Went thru the front door several times today as it fly's very quickly. In
windy condition, I sailed upwind to shelter, but dead downwind it wouldn't
fly much. Upwind was comfy in both straps. The Patrik 100 goes upwind like
a dream, even with 6.0m sail and could have handled more power! I had the
completely wrong setup for todays wind, 1100 FW with 500 RW set at +1. Way
too much power at speed. Max speed was an impressive 19.41 kts and I wasn't
even trying. Tried to get in rear straps several times but crashed
everytime, so have now removed them as Nick had done. The Patrik 100 has
been design for dead downwind sailing! Where as the Exo was a nightmare too
broad, the Patrik went from Wrabness to Mistley downwind flying all the
way, I kept looking if I was flying as couldn't believe it. Nice board, I
can get back to the start point quickly now, but in the swell in the middle
I had to fly really high to clear the wave face, which was definitely
dodgy. Need a few more sails in less wind to suss board. The wing foilers
were pretty impressive, popping gybes off wave faces it the middle. This is
definitely a wave head sport, looks hard though, so will give it a miss ;)
Jon B and old mate Pete were also impressive on fin with some good speeds.
The Felixstowe crew were all gybing freely, impressive, but I didn't try
one at all today. Kit came back without damage, so well happy. HR was
dreadful, starting off 190 bpm and didn't drop below 130 for the couple of
hours.
